that's *Divemaster* Kris to you...

funstuff · 141 words · 19:03 - 16 Nov 06

Wow… it’s done!

I did my Final Dive today and completed the first “professional” level towards becoming a scuba instructor… feels good, but the burden seems to have become heavier, not lighter.

I still love diving, but in that one dive, I realized how sometimes the things we love the most can bring out the worst in us… I got really upset with the instructors in my dive today, having been put under so much stress there were times where I didn’t know whether I should laugh or cry.

Oh well… it’s done now—and I finished it successfully. It seems everything else should be a relative cakewalk (you know, four days here, seven days there really seems like nothing when it took you two months to get to the previous level!)

Wow. That’s really all I can say.

Anyways… that’s the big news today. :D

what is a Christian?

godstuff · 83 words · 23:47 - 23 Oct 06

I was thinking back to a conversation with a non-believing friend recently and thought this a good explanation of what Christianity is all about. Not only that, but it serves to explain how Christians can be capable of the atrocities such as the Crusades and daily sin.

Being a born-again believer is not about being right in man’s eyes… it’s about being made right in God’s eyes. In fact, often, being right in God’s eyes necessarily implies being wrong in man’s.

In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day

godstuff · 154 words · 08:46 - 2 Oct 06

So, I’ve been following the blogging efforts of Mark Batterson as he prepared his book In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day and I’ve been very encouraged by his style and process.

You see, Mark is the lead pastor at TheatreChurch.com in Washington, DC—a church that thrives on pushing the status quo out of the way.

He recently sent me a “preview” of the book, and it looks exciting! Based on Benaiah’s story in 2 Samuel 23:20-21, he shows us how God is currently raising up Christians as “lion chasers”... that is, people that grab a God-ordained challenge by the horns and carry it through.

But he doesn’t stop there—he also shows us how God will bless those that take that step of faith and trust him to provide.

How about you? Will you lock eyes with The Lion… and chase him?

nope... not cured by any stretch

general · 85 words · 00:41 - 14 May 06

Well, the house is for sale and my brain is processing what exactly I’m going to fit into 3 (my limit) checked bags and 2 carry-on, for an extended trip to “do business” and enjoy life for a while on Maui.

Right now, it’s looking like probably July 1st that I’ll be over there… but we’ll see! As always, house guests are more than welcome—I plan on having a 2-bedroom pad over there, but it will be booked on a “first-come, first-served” basis. :-)

wanderlust / vacilando

general · 216 words · 16:21 - 17 Mar 06

So it seems I’ve been stricken with a severe case of wanderlust, bordering on vacilando.

Basically, I’ve come to the point where I’m so very tempted to essentially give up on everything I’ve built and take some time to just get out there and experience life.

Having watched Rent last weekend, I appreciated the carefree and live-savouring style in which the characters lived their lives. Now, granted, they were all in the position to have to live their lives to the fullest—most of them were HIV+ and didn’t know when “the virus [would] take hold.”

But still, none of us know when our lives will be demanded from us (Luke 12:16-21)—isn’t it wise that we live our lives to the fullest today, not waiting until we have accomplished a certain amount of savings, family, or other goals?

What’s stopping you, me or anybody else from doing that, aside from the love of material objects?

I’m torn. Maybe my upcoming Maui trip will help cure this… I guess I’ll know more at the beginning of May. I’ll try and post something… that is, if I haven’t already headed out on my adventures!
